Serice Level Agreements (SLA)

Fileservers provide a central location for holding and serving company data; however as with any shared resource there are concerns about the potential for one part of the business to influence the data access of another. Storage managers seek to alleviate these concerns by providing each part of the business with service level agreements that guarantee a certain level of data availability. A similar situation occurs in the service provision environment, although in this case the service level agreements often have considerable financial penalties for lack of adherence. However, although service level agreements enable storage managers to provide a suitable level of confidence in their service they cause a new problem: managing and measuring the service level agreements themselves. It is only by providing clear and concise metrics back to end users that the contract between customer and supplier can be seen to be enforced.

WysDM for Fileservers provides full reporting and analysis on service level agreements. It monitors a number of parameters that can be used for service availability such as network status and volume utilization, and provides the ability to link this data to service level agreements to provide clear and concise reports on service level agreement adherence. Reports are available over specific time periods (for example, last four weeks or last calendar month) and can include exclusion dates to provide reconciled values. WysDM’s Predictive Analysis Engine monitors service level metrics continually to look for issues that could result in degradation of service, and alerts when services are considered at-risk.
