Asset Management

Storage administrators used to have one or perhaps two fileservers in their storage environment, providing a single central location for a large amount of company data, often everything that was available outside of databases. With the explosion in data the number of fileservers has also increased rapidly, and large environments can have tens or even hundreds of fileservers to manage. Although fileservers perform just as well in these large environments as in smaller ones the management tools available to storage administrators do not scale nearly as well. The result is that a large number of fileservers contain misconfigurations that cause performance problems at best and potential for complete failure at worst. Even in situations where storage administrators configure fileservers correctly the dynamic nature of the storage environment means that a large number of changes will take place on them over their lifetime and any of these could cause issues solely or in tandem with other aspects of the environment.

WysDM for Fileservers provides full reporting and analysis on fileserver asset management. It monitors both logical and physical configuration details, from registry settings to vFiler setup, and provides reporting on aspects of fileserver configuration. Reports are available down to the level of individual settings and up to overall compliance against a pre-defined standard. WysDM’s Predictive Analysis Engine monitors all of the configuration information continually to look for anomalies or inefficiencies, and alerts when dangerous or inadvisable configurations are encountered. It also specifically monitors fileserver clusters to ensure that failover operations will work as expected and not fail due to configuration mismatches.
