Today's backup environments are large and complex and have some of the highest data throughput demands of any computer system. But many of the issues facing backup administrators have little to do with the backup application itself; other technology domains such as servers, networks, and storage are often the real cause of backup failures. Even minor changes in these systems can cause significant reliability and performance issues for the backup environment. In addition, regulatory burdens make ensuring truly successful backups is a prime concern of every backup administrator. These requirements mean that reporting on all aspects of a backup application's operation is no longer a luxury - it's a necessity.

WysDM for Backups provides the visibility to understand even the largest and most complex backup environments. Utilizing the WysDM adaptive architecture, it obtains data from all major components of the backup environment (tape drives, network interfaces, operating systems, backup software, etc.) and provides a comprehensive set of reports on all aspects of backup operations, from SLA compliance to per-device performance. All reports can be published to an intranet or sent via email to interested users. In addition, any information from a report can be analyzed for user-defined conditions, with alerts sent via email or SNMP.

  • Reduces risk - WysDM for Backups maps jobs to backup media, which greatly reduces risk and enforces storage protection policies. WysDM also tracks open files that were not backed up.
