SYSDM™ SHIPS WYSDM FOR BACKUPS™, VERSION 1.1

Patent-pending backup analysis software technology pinpoints trouble spots
in complex, distributed IT storage infrastructures

October 28, 2003 - NEW YORK - SysDM™, Inc., a leading developer of innovative backup analysis solutions, today announced it is shipping Version 1.1 of its WysDM for Backups™ software solution. With WysDM for Backups, enterprises are able to meet their service agreements, backup within prescribed time windows, and ensure their data is backed up and able to be restored - alleviating significant business risks.

WysDM for Backups implements SysDM's patent-pending Cross-Domain Correlation technology. This innovative, agent-less technology analyzes information collected from network, storage, system and application domains to provide IT teams with real-time backup analysis describing what happened, what's happening now and what may happen.

Version 1.1 includes planned enhancements and new features based on feedback from existing customers of WysDM for Backups v1.0. These upgrades will enable IT managers to:

-         Perform predictive trending and analysis with sophisticated reports that extrapolate trends;

-         Create backup "report cards" that provide service-level performance summaries;

-         Analyze the performance over time of their IP and storage-area network [SAN] switches.

"Problems with data backups tend to lie with distributed elements in the backup infrastructure, such as the systems being backed up or network devices," said Doug Bovie, IT Project Manager, Systems & Engineering Group for Equant, a recognized industry leader in global data and IP services for multinational businesses. "WysDM for Backups pinpoints these problems for us immediately. This significantly decreases our mean time to recover [MTTR] and frees up our operations teams. It also provides us with assurance that we're getting the most out of our existing infrastructure and media investment."

"B
ackup problems can have a damaging impact on enterprises, putting the entire organization at risk," said Alan Atkinson, CEO and co-founder of SysDM. "The interdependencies among technologies make it exceedingly difficult to find the causes underlying application failures and performance bottlenecks. We designed WysDM for Backups from the ground up to enable reliable backups and, more importantly, reliable restores."

Cross-Domain Correlation
WysDM for Backups implements SysDM's patent-pending Cross-Domain Correlation technology. This innovative, agent-less technology analyzes information collected from network, storage, systems and application domains to provide IT teams with real-time backup analysis describing what happened, what's happening now and what may happen.

WysDM for Backups gathers and correlates performance and configuration information from enterprise-wide elements. These elements can include backup servers and software, tape libraries and drives, storage applications, servers, network devices, and storage arrays. WysDM for Backups consolidates performance information and utilization information from all these assets, highlighting bottlenecks.

The Cross-Domain Correlation functionality enables backup administrators to pinpoint the true cause of infrastructure failures and performance bottlenecks before they impact the business. Because WysDM for Backups actively collects data (rather than solely reacting to events), it is able to interpret trending information from its historical data mine.

Agentless Technology
Agents aren't required to make WysDM work. Indeed, most WysDM for Backups technology is agentless. The WysDM for Backups modules are preconfigured to access information from a variety of devices, including Legato NetWorker software, Veritas NetBackup software, tape drives and libraries, storage arrays, Fibre Channel and IP switches, and Linux, Solaris and Windows systems.

WysDM Performance Analysis Engine
WysDM for Backups is designed modularly, so it can expand as your organization's needs grow. The key module is the WysDM Predictive Analysis Engine (PAE). The PAE provides automatic, out-of-the-box system, application and correlation analysis. It continually scans the data, searching for performance issues and patterns. The PAE alerts operations staff before problems become backup failures or performance bottlenecks. The PAE is able to determine, for example, when the file system is full or filling up; when a business application is at risk from chronic backup failure; when host performance becomes a bottleneck; and when a backup isn't running properly.

WysDM Reporter
The WysDM Reporter module provides more than 150 reports out of the box, including Top 10 slowest clients, media utilization, most common errors, and SLA reports. The wizard-driven Reporter module is fully configurable using a drag-and-drop interface.

WysDM for Backups installs in hours, returning its value immediately, as opposed to traditional solutions that take days, weeks or even months. No installation is required on backup servers, and the application integrates with existing IT tools via XML APIs. WysDM for Backups runs under Solaris, Linux or Windows. Screen shots and customer references are available upon request.
